Spiritual Self-Care – Examples & Plan

Why Practice Spiritual Self Care Daily?
We know that taking care of our body each day is crucial for living a long and healthy life but taking care of our spirit – our energy is just as important. Our energy is what infuses our body and, in many cases, imbalances in our physical body first occur as imbalances in our energy.
A daily routine where you honor your energetic body can have a tremendous impact on your life.
What is the Difference Between Spirituality and Religion?
Both spirituality and religion share the belief that there is a divine presence or creator, and our existence is purposeful and intentional. Where many religions focus on developing your relationship with source within a community, when honoring your spiritual connection with source, you will decide the routines and methods you will use to connect with universal life force.
For many people, the first step towards discovering this divine presence is the focus on the divinity within themselves. Some people find that time spent alone in contemplation and reflection can awaken and nourish their energy and what they call their higher self. Moments of enlightenment can take time to grow or can happen in an instant.
The very nature of a spiritual connection is that just like you are one with all that is, there are no boundaries. The divine being remains transcendent and not bound by any physical reality. When we believe in the existence of that divine presence within ourselves, then we naturally feel more at ease and peace in our lives.
What is Spiritual Self Care?
Spending time nourishing your spirit and opening up more to what happens beyond our physical senses can help you to release belief patterns that subconsciously rule your days. Setting up a daily or weekly routine to engage in activities or exercises that lift your vibration will have many benefits for your wellbeing.
Spiritual self-care can include any activity that helps you learn, grow, and connect with the divine by yourself or with others.
How Can We Benefit from Spiritual Self Care?
Spiritual self-care benefits your health, including mental and emotional well-being. Studies show that having a belief in a divine presence is part of what increases life expectancy, reduces stress and depression, and can improve social connections.
By participating in spiritual self-care regularly, you also have more space to release stored memories, energy, emotions and beliefs that could be blocking your energy flow and limiting you in your life.
What Forms of Spiritual Self Care Are There?
There are many ways of creating a spiritual connection. We can connect with universal life force using meditation, prayer, contemplation or journaling, nature, and breathwork.
Meditation can be an empowering way to connection with the divine. Meditation allows us to let go of our thoughts to find stillness. There are many different forms of meditation. Some involve deep breathing, mindfulness, or guided exercises.

If you walk in nature, the simple act of being present outdoors is a form of spiritual self-care. Walking in nature can connect you to the divine in recognition of the creation of life around you.
Taking time to reflect on the meaning of life, your purpose, or what lessons you’ve learned from personal experiences in a journal is also a form of spiritual self-care. Reflecting in this way gives you the opportunity to learn from the past to grow and evolve.
Writing a daily gratitude reflection is another form of spiritual self-care. It focuses your mind on what you appreciate in life. Focusing on what you are grateful for will bring more things into your life you can also be grateful for.

The act of breathing with intention can also help you to become more present which in turn can get your focus out of your monkey mind and into your energetic self and heart center. It can be as simple as breathing in for the count of 6, holding for 4 and then exhaling for 8 and holding for 4. Try this for a few minutes a few times a day. You will be happily surprised with the results.
Physical activities that encourage your connection with your energy such as yoga, or Qi Gong can help you to develop a stronger awareness of your energetic body as well as strengthen and balance the flow of energy within you.
Connecting with tools that resonate such as essential oils, crystals, sound instruments such as singing bowls or tuning forks can also be a powerful way for you to nourish your spirit. Be open to them entering your life at the time you need them.

Using divination tools can also be a fun and engaging way to connect with your higher self. Starting your day with a reflection using tarot cards, runes, a pendulum, or the I Ching for example can help you align with messages from source and your divine self.
Another way to nourish your energy is to ensure that your environment is resonant with you. Clearing away clutter, removing items that are damaged or bring your energy down gives you a fresh space. Opening your windows, letting sun in and diffusing essential oils or using sound tools are effective at clearing and raising the energy of your space which in turn helps your personal energy.
Connect with like-minded individuals. Finding a community that shares your interest in raising consciousness can be a wonderful way to continue your own energetic evolution. This can be through reading inspiring work, taking a course or finding a circle with the same intentions.
